Dyazide
(a diuretic) was prescribed for me by a physician, as a treatment for my tinnitus.
it didn't help -- I took it the full 2 weeks. initially, i took 1 Dyazide capsule in the morning,
which my ENT upped to 2 Dyazide capsules.
the Dyazide didn't effect my tinnitus whatsoever. niacin and neurontin made my tinnitus far worse
-- only temporarily, thank goodness. (i'll write more about those other experiences, as soon
as I can.)
various drugs -- including diuretics -- are rumored to help with treatment of
tinnitus.
Effectiveness is widely variable -- dyazide may help one persons tinnitus, &
make another tinnitus sufferer worse. (Its' more likely to have no effect, than it is to
worsen your T.)
some other meds and diuretics are
oto-toxic, which means they can CAUSE or WORSEN tinnitus.
diuretics are medicines that help reduce the amount of water in the body.
there are loop diuretics
(named for the loop-shaped part of the kidneys where diuretics have their effect).
And there potassium-sparing diuretics.
Dyazide is the most common diuretic prescribed in the management of tinnitus.
As noted, it didn't help me at all. If you have had a different experience with
Dyazide -- or, any diuretic -- affecting your tinnitus of hearing condition, please
email me, so I can collect further data on the issue.
furosemide, a very potent diuretic, has a side effect of INDUCING tinnitus,
as well as temporary hearing loss.
but, when given in reduced doses to 37 tinnitus-sufferers, HALF of them reported
improvement.
in other words, medication treatment for tinnitus can be complicated, as well as dose-related, etc.
